Teaching

Teaching stage combat is more than just teaching the techniques of a throwing a punch or swinging a sword. It is a physical acting class that explores intention, obstacle and character.

Classes
I've taught freelance classes for Society of American Fight Directors Skills Proficiency Testing (see below), as well as teaching classes for schools like North Carolina School of the Arts, HB Studios, and NYU/Stella Adler Conservatory.

I've also taught children's theatre programs for the Harlem School of the Arts and Play Time Theatre.

Workshops
I've taught workshop classes around the country including in New York, Chicago, Denver and at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA.

Workshops have included basic technique classes, classes examining intention, the use of tempo and rhythm in sword fights and most recently an exploration of the use of the Viewpoints to create and personalize choreography.

SNYC
I am a Certified Teacher with the Society of American Fight Directors (SAFD), the largest stage combat organization in the world.

In the SAFD's skills proficiency training, students can train in one or more of the SAFD's eight recognized weapon styles. This training culminates in a Skills Proficiency Test adjudicated by one of the SAFD's Fight Masters.
